  • Majestic Qualities

The bark of young pin oaks is relatively smooth and gray, but as the tree matures, it develops distinctive, rough, and scaly bark.

Oak trees, including pin oaks, have been symbols of strength and endurance in various cultures. They are often associated with longevity and resilience.

Pin oaks are susceptible to a fungal disease called oak wilt, which can be fatal if left untreated. Proper care and monitoring are important for their health.

  • Backstory

Standing tall and proud, Oakley the Pin Oak is majestic all year round but especially when its green leaves turn fiery reds, oranges and yellows. Oakley is great tree to read a book under — in fact, there is a plaque honoring Dr. Ralph Storey, an English professor and Linfield’s poet laureate who taught here from 1928-1948. Take a moment to admire its beautiful branches while you walk through campus.
