  • Majestic Qualities

Giant Sequoias are the most massive trees on the planet and can live to be 3000 years old!

Giant Sequoias are very hardy, being resistant to fire, fungal rot, and wood-boring beetles due to the tannin in their bark.

Giant Sequoias are very rare, only being found in California's Sierra Nevada Mountain Range on western slopes between 4000 and 8000 ft. of elevation.

  • Backstory

As the tallest of the Majestic Trees, Toby the Giant Sequoia really leaves an impression! Guarding the entrance to Murdock Hall, Toby’s textured, squishy bark and numerous branches make it a sight to behold — in fact, Toby’s trunk is more than 21 feet around. This California transplant is out of its normal range in the Sierra Mountains, but Toby is thriving in its Linfield habitat, proudly overseeing the academic quad. Just like some Linfield students, Toby is far from home. And just like Linfield students, Toby has grown into something so big in its time here!
